John Cena
Making his WWE wrestling debut in 2002, 30-year old Massachusetts native John Cena (born John Felix Anthony Cena) of World Wresting Entertainment is one of today’s most commercialized wrestlers. Also known as “Prototype” standing at 6’1” with 240 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal, now is the time for John Cena to capitalize on his assets for all they’re worth. Search online for John Cena’s biography and you will find an abundance of articles, reviews and John Cena photos (is that really John Cena’s girlfriend?!) Die hard fans of the three times WWE champion can even get John Cena Myspace layouts, John Cena toy/action figure and even purchase a blinged out John Cena belt complete with fake diamonds and custom front spinner.
Long before his relatively recent fame as a wrestling superstar, John was an exercise physiology major and successful offensive lineman at Springfield College in Springfield, MA. In 2000 the college graduate originally pursued a career in bodybuilding while working at Gold’s Gym in Venice, CA. Just two short years later he found his calling in the world of professional wrestling.
Today we see him following in the footsteps of some of his past idols and fellow WWE superstars such as Hulk Hogan and The Rock by making an appearance on the big screen. The former college football player becomes John Cena “The Marine” playing the title role as John Triton, an ex-marine who was discharged against his will while serving in Iraq. This 2006 action thriller is directed by John Bonito and produced by none other than WWE owner Vince McMahon. It is rumored that the lead role was originally meant for former WWE superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin. When Austin left the WWE in 2004 fellow wrestler Kurt Angle was considered but in the end it was John Cena who took the lead. Unfortunately, box office sales were less than stellar its opening week.
As if kicking ass and taking names in the ring and melting hearts of women world wide as the main heartthrob on the big screen aren’t enough, the self-proclaimed Doctor of Thuganomics brings his WWE character and hip-hop personality to life by dabbling a bit in the music industry. The CD entitled “You Can’t See Me” featuring rap songs like John Cena’s entrance theme “Now is the Time” gets mixed reviews but apparently has a solid fan base averaging 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com. John also has tracks on the World Wrestling Entertainment soundtrack albums. Other songs on his album include:
